This peer-led event brought together people with lived and living experience, artists, community workers, researchers, and members of the general public for a day of presentations, discussions, and artistic exhibitions.<\/p><p class=\"pWQWPQ zd2YxA\">Designed and led by people directly affected by substance use, homelessness, mental health challenges, criminalization, and sex work, the event aimed to highlight art as a means of expression and recognize the expertise that comes from lived experience. The programming and activities were co-constructed by an organizing committee made up of people with lived and living experience and their allies.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-004962c e-con-full e-flex wpr-particle-no wpr-jarallax-no wpr-parallax-no Drawing on both professional and experiential expertise, she has worked for several years to develop community-based research approaches, knowledge mobilization strategies, and peer-led recruitment strategies for marginalized populations, in collaboration with community organizations, researchers, and people with lived and experiential knowledge.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">She develops strategic partnerships and engagement approaches to support the meaningful participation of people who use drugs in research. She has notably developed community-based research clinics in Montreal and led a scientific article examining the effectiveness of peer-led recruitment strategies. She regularly presents her work at provincial, national, and international conferences and also works as a consultant for various organizations and institutions, including the Quebec Ministry of Health and Social Services (MSSS), the Coll\u00e8ge des m\u00e9decins du Qu\u00e9bec, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.changemark.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ChangeMark Research + Evaluation.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Her personal journey includes lived experience related to substance use, opioid agonist therapy (OAT), hepatitis C, homelessness, sex work, harm reduction, and recovery. This experience informs an approach deeply rooted in equity, harm reduction, and the recognition of experiential knowledge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">She is the initiator and coordinator of <em>Exprimer l\u2019invisible<\/em>, an artistic, community-based, and knowledge mobilization initiative <strong>BY AND FOR<\/strong> people affected by substance use, mental health challenges, homelessness, criminalization, and sex work. As part of this initiative, she oversees the project\u2019s overall coordination in close collaboration with the organizing committee, composed of people with lived and experiential knowledge and allies. Her responsibilities include team supervision, logistical and event planning, fundraising, budget management, partnership development, and programming across the various components of the initiative. Her involvement also extends to the selection of artistic and video content, the development of visual identities and promotional materials, the selection of artists and speakers, as well as the coordination of the research component and documentation of the participatory process. As a community organizer with AQPSUD, a member of GID, and co-organizer of the <em>Exprimer l\u2019invisible<\/em> project, she works at the intersection of harm reduction, health promotion, and advocacy for the rights of people who use drugs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Her work is grounded in a human rights, social justice, collective empowerment, and experiential knowledge approach. Having personally experienced several losses related to the consequences of the war on drugs, including the overdose crisis, she has developed grief discussion workshops and guides aimed at creating and expanding safe spaces where people can express, share, and collectively process their experiences of loss and survival.<\/p>\n<p><br \/><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Role in <em>Exprimer l\u2019invisible<\/em>: <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">\u25aa Co-organization: Isabelle and I had a conversation about the importance of art in harm reduction and the impact that art had had on each of us. We also had confidence in our ability to organize a day created by people with lived and living experience \/ people who use or have used drugs.<br>\n\u25aa Organizing <em>Exprimer l\u2019invisible<\/em> was not simple, as every detail, down to the smallest one, had to be carefully considered. It was during the organizing committee meetings that we made sure everything was coordinated and that we were moving forward at a good pace. We had a strong core group of people who helped organize the day, without whom none of this would have been possible.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Panel<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">I co-constructed the panel with Flo. It was very important to us to bring together a diversity of people and experiences in order to address different realities and show that there are many ways of integrating art into harm reduction. We also wanted the panelists to feel supported and accompanied throughout the process. For this reason, we organized two preparatory meetings during which we asked for their input on the format, themes, and questions. We also took the time to identify with them the topics they felt most comfortable discussing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">Among the panelists were people with lived and living experience who were able to share the impact that art and these projects have had on their lives. We also invited people who have developed initiatives combining art and harm reduction to show that these projects are possible and can have a meaningful impact, both on participants and on those who organize them.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">The Panel Discussion<\/span><\/p>\n<p>During the <em>Exprimer l\u2019invisible<\/em> event, I had the pleasure of moderating the panel discussion.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Art Workshops<\/span><\/p>\n<p>We held a series of two art workshops with people who use or have used drugs and\/or people with lived and experiential knowledge. We only had six spots available, so it was easy to find people who were motivated and interested in creating a collective artwork that embodied the idea of <em>Exprimer l\u2019invisible<\/em>. Jessica and I co-facilitated the art workshops, and they were a great success, as our different personalities complemented each other very well. We took the time to really reflect with the participants on the art we were creating and what it represented to each person involved. Jessica created the torso and head of a human figure out of wire, and the participants filled the structure with all kinds of art representing things that are not always visible, but that we nevertheless feel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">One of the most memorable moments of the workshops was when participants took turns sharing the meaning behind their artwork with us. It was incredibly rewarding to create a space that was open, non-judgmental, and centered on listening. It was really important to Jessica and me that the art workshops be a safe space for self-expression. When we look at the impact of these activities, it makes you wonder why there aren\u2019t more of them happening year-round!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">On-Site Art Workshops<\/span> :<\/p>\n<p>During the <em>Exprimer l\u2019invisible<\/em> event, Jessica and I, with the help of a few people on site, facilitated a collective art workshop. Throughout most of the day, participants were invited to express themselves through art on a large canvas. My involvement ultimately grew to a level I could never have imagined, but it was well worth it, given all the positive feedback we received about the event. Looking back, I realized that the experience was absolutely worth it, and I would not hesitate to do it again if needed. As co-founder and Vice-President of the collective \u201cArt Entr\u2019Elles,\u201d she advocates for the recognition of the voices of criminalized women in artistic and social spaces. Her work has been exhibited, performed, and published, notably in the book\u00a0<em>Des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s de la prison<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\" class=\"translation-block\">As part of <em>Exprimer l\u2019invisible<\/em>, Genevi\u00e8ve Fortin contributes to the event\u2019s conception and promotion, particularly through the development of communication tools, the structuring of content, and support for outreach and dissemination. She is also a speaker and advocate for humane and pragmatic approaches to substance use, and participates in overdose prevention and anti-stigma initiatives.\n\nHer participation in the organizing committee of the <i>Exprimer l\u2019invisible<\/i> event, as well as her role as master of ceremonies and opening speaker, are a natural extension of her own recovery journey. She is also interested in the forms of resistance and agency that emerge within these constraints. Isabelle Boisvert Isabelle Boisvert est responsable des partenariats par et pour \u00e0 l\u2019Initiative canadienne de recherche sur les impacts des substances psychoactives (ICRIS-CRISM), ainsi que co-chercheure pour la Cohorte Femmes+ au Centre de recherche du CHUM (CRCHUM) et \u00e0 la Chaire de recherche sur le genre et l\u2019intervention en d\u00e9pendance. Forte d\u2019une expertise \u00e0 la fois professionnelle et exp\u00e9rientielle, elle \u0153uvre depuis plusieurs ann\u00e9es au d\u00e9veloppement d\u2019approches de recherche communautaire, de mobilisation des connaissances et de strat\u00e9gies de recrutement men\u00e9es par les pair\u00b7es aupr\u00e8s de populations marginalis\u00e9es, en collaboration avec des organismes communautaires, des chercheur\u00b7euses et des personnes avec savoirs exp\u00e9rientiels. Elle d\u00e9veloppe des partenariats strat\u00e9giques et des approches d\u2019engagement visant \u00e0 soutenir la participation significative des personnes qui utilisent des drogues dans la recherche. Elle a notamment d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 des cliniques de recherche communautaires \u00e0 Montr\u00e9al et dirig\u00e9 un article scientifique portant sur l\u2019efficacit\u00e9 des strat\u00e9gies de recrutement men\u00e9es par les pair\u00b7es. Elle pr\u00e9sente r\u00e9guli\u00e8rement ses travaux lors de conf\u00e9rences provinciales, nationales et internationales et agit \u00e9galement comme consultante aupr\u00e8s de diff\u00e9rents organismes et institutions, dont le minist\u00e8re de la Sant\u00e9 et des Services sociaux du Qu\u00e9bec (MSSS), le Coll\u00e8ge des m\u00e9decins du Qu\u00e9bec et ChangeMark Research + Evaluation. Son parcours personnel inclut une exp\u00e9rience v\u00e9cue li\u00e9e \u00e0 l\u2019usage de substances, au traitement par agonistes opio\u00efdes (TAO) et de l\u2019h\u00e9patite C, \u00e0 l\u2019itin\u00e9rance, au travail du sexe, \u00e0 la r\u00e9duction des m\u00e9faits et au r\u00e9tablissement. Cette trajectoire nourrit une approche profond\u00e9ment ancr\u00e9e dans l\u2019\u00e9quit\u00e9, la r\u00e9duction des m\u00e9faits et la reconnaissance des savoirs exp\u00e9rientiels. Elle est l\u2019initiatrice et coordonnatrice du projet\u00a0Exprimer l\u2019invisible, une d\u00e9marche artistique, communautaire et de mobilisation des connaissances par et pour les personnes concern\u00e9es par la consommation de substances, la sant\u00e9 mentale, l\u2019itin\u00e9rance, la judiciarisation et le travail du sexe. Dans le cadre de cette initiative, elle assure la coordination g\u00e9n\u00e9rale du projet en \u00e9troite collaboration avec le comit\u00e9 organisateur compos\u00e9 de personnes avec savoirs exp\u00e9rientiels et\u00a0alli\u00e9.es, incluant la supervision des \u00e9quipes, la planification logistique et \u00e9v\u00e9nementielle, la recherche de financement, la gestion budg\u00e9taire, le d\u00e9veloppement des partenariats et la programmation des diff\u00e9rents volets. Son implication couvre \u00e9galement la s\u00e9lection des contenus artistiques et vid\u00e9o, le d\u00e9veloppement des identit\u00e9s visuelles et du mat\u00e9riel de diffusion, la s\u00e9lection d&rsquo;artistes et conf\u00e9rencier\u00b7\u00e8res, ainsi que la coordination du volet recherche et la documentation du processus participatif. \u00c0 travers ce travail, elle contribue activement au rayonnement de l\u2019initiative, au transfert des connaissances qui en d\u00e9coulent et \u00e0 la p\u00e9rennit\u00e9 du mouvement\u00a0Exprimer l\u2019invisible.\u00a0\u00a0 lire plus M\u00e9lodie Talbot M\u00e9lodie Talbot est une organisatrice communautaire et une personned\u00e9tentrice d\u2019un savoir exp\u00e9rientiel impliqu\u00e9e dans la repr\u00e9sentation despersonnes qui utilisent des drogues depuis plus de 14 ans. Organisatricecommunautaire au sein de l\u2019AQPSUD, impliqu\u00e9e dans la GID et co-organisatrice du projet Exprimer l\u2019invisible, elle \u0153uvre \u00e0 l\u2019intersection de la r\u00e9duction desm\u00e9faits, de la promotion de la sant\u00e9 et de la d\u00e9fense des droits des personnes qui utilisent des drogues. Son travail s\u2019inscrit dans une approche ancr\u00e9e dans les droits humains, la justice sociale, l\u2019empowerment collectif et la reconnaissance des savoirs exp\u00e9rientiels. Ayant elle-m\u00eame travers\u00e9 plusieurs deuils li\u00e9s aux cons\u00e9quences de la guerre \u00e0la drogue, dont la crise des surdoses, elle a d\u00e9velopp\u00e9 des ateliers de discussion sur le deuil ainsi que des guides visant \u00e0 cr\u00e9er et multiplier des espacess\u00e9curitaires o\u00f9 les personnes peuvent exprimer, partager et collectiviser leurs exp\u00e9riences de perte et de survivance. R\u00f4le dans Exprimer l\u2019invisible : \u25aa Co-organisation : Isabelle et moi avons eu une conversation sur l\u2019importance de l\u2019art en r\u00e9duction des m\u00e9faits et quel impact l\u2019art avait eu sur nous. Nous avions aussi confiance en nos capacit\u00e9s d\u2019organis\u00e9 une journ\u00e9e cr\u00e9er par des Personnes avec savoir exp\u00e9rientiel\/personnes qui utilisent ou qui ont utilis\u00e9s des drogues.\u25aa Organiser Exprimer l\u2019invisible n\u2019a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 simple car tous \u00e9taient pens\u00e9, jusqu\u2019au plus petit d\u00e9tails. C\u2019est lors des rencontres du comit\u00e9 organisateur qu\u2019on s\u2019assurait que tout se coordonnait ensemble et qu\u2019on avan\u00e7ait \u00e0 un bon rythme.
